Coffee Basics: Foundation is an introductory course designed for complete beginners who want a broad, structured understanding of coffee before choosing a specific path such as barista work or manual brewing. This course focuses on building core coffee knowledge, confidence, and vocabulary—making it the ideal starting point for anyone new to specialty coffee.

Students are introduced to the full coffee journey, from origin and processing to roasting and flavor development. Through guided sensory exercises and cupping sessions, participants learn how to identify basic flavor notes and understand how different variables influence taste. The course also provides a practical overview of essential brewing methods and café equipment, without overwhelming technical depth.

Rather than specializing in espresso or brewing alone, the Foundation course creates a strong mental framework for coffee—helping students understand why coffee tastes the way it does and how different preparation methods affect the final cup. This makes it a perfect prerequisite for higher-level barista or brewing courses.

What you’ll learn:

  • Coffee origins, processing methods, and roast profiles
